Is it safe to move or delete cabinet files?
I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me as to whether I can either delete, or move the large number of cabinet files which the DirectX Installer downloaded into my personal Downloads folder. When I downloaded the software from the Microsoft website it asked me to chose a destination point for the download, without suggesting a location (as is normal). Not having much IT knowledge I selected my personal download folder.
I understand that a cabinet file is a single file created to hold a number of compressed files, and that during installation of a program, the compressed files in a cabinet are decompressed and copied to an appropriate directory for the user. I have also read different opinions as to whether it is safe to delete the cabinet files once the installation of the software is complete. If I cannot delete them I would at least like to remove them to a different place on my pc's hard drive as I don't want them clogging up my personal downloads folder.
I have uninstalled the application (Media Player Classic) which was the reason I downloaded DirectX in the first place. Is it safe now to delete the cabinet files, or is there a danger I could cause damage to my system?
I have enough space on my hard drive to accomodate the cabinet files on my pc, but I am unsure of the proper place to store them. Is it safe to move them to another destination on my hard disc and how do I go about doing this?

Jun 06, 2012  how to delete a dmg file Hi, I do not know I am having the same problem. Download mac mojave. I saved some file by using disk utility and was able to open using the password that I set. But, once my mac crashed and got repaired, I had to recover all the files( including the dmg files) and stored it in DW passport. When I connect the Passport to Mac and tried to.

  • To answer your question(s), generally speaking, yes, you can delete the container file whether it be a.pkg,.dmg or.zip file. This of course assumes that all content of the container file has been installed.
  • Reboot the copmuter and then try and delete the file. Generally it means that the dmg drive that is mounted has a file that. Is opened directly from it. So it will not unmount. If you reboot it will close all files and release the lock which will allow you to remove.
  • Instead, they sometimes arrive in the format dmg, and I can't tell what they contain until I click on them. Is it reasonable to assume that dmg files are safe? When I see a mystery dmg file from a mystery source, should my rule of thumb be 'Sure, click away', or 'No, you don't know what that really is, maybe better not to.
